La description a été faite selon : "Fourth Contribution to the Ichthyology of Lake Tanganyika - Report on the collection of fishes made by Dr. W. A. Cunnington during the third Tanganyika Expedition, 1904-1905". Transactions of the Zoological Society of London. pp. 537-619, sous le nom de Lamprologus!
La localité type est au cap de Kaboge, en République Démocratique du Congo.
Il se trouve tout autour du lac.
